Choosing a Hood for your Kitchen
The hood above the cooking area in your kitchen has a very important function, but it shouldn't just suck! The hood you choose in your new kitchen is an opportunity to introduce color, texture or flair into your space. There are many types of kitchen hoods to choose from, and picking the right one for you is an important part of our design process.
Appliance hoods are typically stainless steel and mostly come in a chimney or awning shape. In this particular kitchen, we incorporated a box style hood that extends above the cabinet line and floats just below the ceiling, creating a visual break from the flat-fronted natural white oak wall cabinets surrounding the hood. If you’re not planning on integrating other paneled appliances into your kitchen, a stainless steel or metal hood may be the right choice for you!
"Cabinet Style" hoods can be made to match your cabinetry, allowing the fixture to seamlessly integrate into the design of your kitchen. In this design, the hood color matches the cabinets in the island, pulling the two pieces together and adding a pop of color to the palate. Cabinet Style hoods are no longer just features of traditional kitchens and have come back en vogue over the last few years.
Want a little extra flair? Introducing a new material on a "Cabinet Style" hood is a great way to bring a pop of color into the kitchen. A thin strip of gold was framed into front of this hood, tying it together with the gold hardware on the cabinet doors, the faucet and the pendant lights over the island. If colorful cabinetry is not your thing, but you still want a little color, this type of detail may be just the thing for you!
